Edmonson County water district receives $9.25 million for plant upgrades

BROWNSVILLE, Ky. (WBKO) – Senator Mitch McConnell secured more than $540 million dollars in federal funding for several priorities in Kentucky. One of those priorities is the Edmonson County Water District.

The district received $9.256 million for modernization of its water treatment plant.

According to General Manager Kevin Shaw, the grant has helped the plant move forward on future projects that are needed. The district estimates about $25 million worth of work needs to be done overall.

“Even before we knew that we would get the grant from Senator McConnell’s office, we had broken that into two phases,” Shaw said. “The first phase being about $14.5 million, and then the second phase coming later.”

Shaw said the upgrades are long overdue and The plant has not been upgraded since 2000.

“There’s been a lot of regulations change in the past 25 years. And the first piece of this work will get us catching up with our shortcomings on old regulations,” he said.

Upgrades to the Edmonson County water treatment plant include changing operation products used within the plant and advancements in technology.
